Odeo —Recording your voice by phone

Because I had a wee bit of difficulty in finding a web page that explained how to use technology from Odeo which allows you to record your voice over the phone for instant upload to the Web. Very nicely, Odeo responded as follows:

Crystal from Odeo, July 6, writes:

Odeo has implemented a service that allows you to record your voice to the web using your phone. Itâ•˙s like posting a voice message online. If you want everyone to hear it, great! You can make it universally accessible. If you’d rather restrict your audience to a select few, you can keep it private. And the good news is: phone posts are unlimited in length, and free!

Using your phone, you must first set up phone posting capability. If you have already set up your phone posting information, skip these initial steps.

Setting up Phone posting
1.) Log into your account here
2.) Click on the “Phone Record Set Up” link in the pink box in the upper right hand corner.

This will take you to a page called “Phone It In: 415-856-0205.”

1.) Take note of the Odeo Phone posting number: (415-856-0205) Save it in your cell phone, write it on your calendar, this is the number you will call every time you make a phone post.

2.) Decide on a primary phone number and pin number (these numbers are for identification purposes; you will enter these every time you call to make a phone post, so they should be numbers you like!)

3.) Decide where you want the phone posts to go. You have the option of posting them to a channel (public) or not placing them in a channel (private.) If you already have a channel, the drop down box should offer the option to place your phone posts in your channel. You can always create a separate channel for phone posts as well.

Now You’re Ready!
When you’ve finished setting up the phone post capability, your pink “Phone Record Set Up” box should instead say: “Call 415-856-0205″

Once this page is set up, you can call the Odeo Phone Post number (415-856-0205) and post to your heart’s content. Follow the prompts that tell you to:

1.) Enter your 10 digit number, press one if correct.
2.) Enter your pin, press pound when finished.
3.) Leave your message after the tone.
4.) VERY IMPORTANT: press the pound key to end the recording, and to save the recording, press the “1″ key.

CAUTION: If you do not do this, your phone post will be gone forever. If you do this, however, your message will appear instantly on your Odeo page, where you can do with it what you will! If you have any questions/problems, contact us at support@odeo.com.

Thanks,
Crystal

NOTE FROM HIBBS: Eight years ago Blaine Berger set up a system that allowed an easy way to make a nice web page, add links, photo and simultaneously open a “Voice-Alert” account which allowed your voice to be recorded and “attached” to the web page. It was neat while it lasted, but if finally crashed. Thanks Blaine. One day I hope Odeo will take a page out of your book!
