How Do I Prepare my “Presentation”?

What is this all about? How do I prepare? What do the organizers want ? What makes for a good presentation? We work very hard to select people “something compelling to say“. The persons might be nationally known leaders in pinnacle positions. Or they might be 14 year old kids who found something exciting that helped in their learning experience.
The whole point of the event is to have many dozens of interesting conversations of a kind that will be so compelling they will circulate widely from the archives….the kind that community radio broadcasters “pick up” for broadcasting to tens of thousands of listeners.

Except for Keynoters, most of the event is more like talk-radio than an “Academic confab” Yes, presenters provide links to web pages that complement and supplement the voices, especially photos and text content that add depth to the subject being talked about.

But the important thing is not graphics or web pages; the important thing is interesting content that comes by way of good moderators, good panel members and people who are obviously passionate about what they are doing. And why they want to talk about it.
“Presentations” - and we don’t like that word as much as we do “conversation” — go something like this.

Mostly, each forum starts with a 3-5 minute “backgrounder” that sets the stage for the balance of the time allocated — usually about 30 minutes. The very best “backgrounders” are those that are very carefully crafted well in advance of the event - and polished though practice and improvement….like preparing for a 3-5 minute speech in front of a big crowd.

Please note that in some cases the “backgrounded” may be prerecorded; Or there is a particular podcast that already exists and would serve as a “backgrounder”.

(Hint: Pre-recorded podcasts work very well as a good springboard for subsequent real time converations. They also help “presenters” find others who would like to participate in the real time conversation that follows the playing of that which is pre-recorded).
Folowing either a very polished “speech” in real time, or a recording mutually agreed upon has been delivered then there is follow up conversation; this is then followed by Q&A from the audience.
All of it is lead by smart moderators who help build the panel and provide pre-event coaching and advice and links to fellow participants.

Once an general agreement is reached about topic and time slot and allotment of time, the registration follows at LetsGoExpo.
What time? All conversations take place in real time at about 2 p.m. local time Sunday October 8. Presenters need to make an ordinary phone call to our American located phone room. In exceptional cases we provide telephone debit/calling cards; however many, many presenters use Skype to call free; and others don’t think the cost of a 30 minute phone call is worthy of the spotlight that we shine on it - in real time and from the archives.

Almost all “presentations” are within a 30 minute time limit. Questions?
