Jason Becker & Gabcast

It’s very rare for us to chase technology vendors; mostly it’s the other way around. But because we feel strongly that the ordinary telephone, to include cell and mobile phones, will remain a very important part of e-education, e-training and e-events and because we like what Jason Becker and his company, Gabcast, had to say, we are very pleased he will join us from Calgary, Canada.

JASON’S BACKGROUND
Jason originally intended to be a university professor. graduating with a B.A. in BA in Psychology from the University of Calgary and pursued a MSc in Behavioral Neuroscience. On the way to “self-employment” he tells us of “stops” with some oil and gas companies (what else in Alberta?) plus IBM and Verity. He’s a geeky guy with credentials in “the Technology industry.” He likes classical music. Click here for his favorite book.
What first turned us on was his interest in open source technology where his company, Coalescent Systems, is stewarding the “Free PBX” system.Jason Becker Photo

All well and good, but here’s why we liked Jason—

He writes:

First and foremost, because we tear down the technological barriers to participation in the podcasting revolution. With Gabcast, any touch-tone telephone is a recording device. We currently offer local access numbers in Australia, Canada, The Netherlands, Singapore and the UK, and we provide a toll-free number in the US.

Second, we believe in choice. We have three levels of service to choose from: Free, Pro and Premium. And each channel owner, depending upon his or her need and service level, is given options. For example, Premium channel owners can brand or skin an audio player that can (optionally) be embedded into their remote blog or website. Choice is baked in.

Third, we listen to our users. Gabcast evolves and improves because of user feedback. That probably sounds like a cliché but prior to Gabcast we developed and stewarded a very successful open source project. Listening to your users is absolutely critical for an open source project to succeed. We know of no other way.

And last but not certainly not least, Gabcast is reliable and stable.
