Professor George Chan - Ecological Design Consultant
George Chan has been involved directing two very important Federal programs, at the US Environmental Protection Agency and the US Department of Energy, in the US Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands (CNMI).
What really motivates Professor Chan now is his frustration at how inadequately things are done in the farming community today and his desire to make the IF&WMS a commonly known alternative to conventional farming systems. For example he has visited so many small dairy farms that have closed down in New Mexico, USA, because they were losing money due to the high costs of input, when Brazil has solved similar problems with the IF&WMS. He takes pride in the fact that he had the honor of introducing one of these prototypes at one of their research institutions, TECPAR, in Parana State. Because of the momentum in Brazil, he feels at least partially gratified and he is optimistic that his message of integrated farming is at least beginning to get through in some parts of the world.
